Samarkand
Samarkand
The Samarkand fabric is inspired by the architectural structures and colours of buildings of Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in Central Asia which prospered on the trade route (Silk Road) between China and the Mediterranean.
Small ink line drawings – looking in through windows, up through arches, embellishments on tops of buildings – have been overlaid and repeated to make new patterns and surfaces.
Dirty pinks, greens, gold (represented by yellow), red and the various blue shades (the colours of mourning) are all reflected in the fabrics. The Samarkand fabrics were designed for a client launching a new hotel and restaurant.
