StudioBudgeBudge fabrics are made by taking marks from original artworks. Playing with, sometimes changing scale, merging different patterns, we create new repeat  patterns … printing onto organic materials.

Field Fabrics

The patterns of the Field Fabrics are a meditation on the changing sowing patterns in the fields of Dorset.

Pattern names: Walnut Crop, Autumn Plough, Chalk Lines, Chalk Leaf, Walnut Earth, Walnut Hills, Plough Lines, Chalk Spot, Chalk Circle.

Land & Water fabrics

The patterns of the Land and Water fabrics are made when I am sailing, reflecting the integration of the field patterns with new patterns found at sea. Some of the patterns are captured in my sketch book, some are painted with walnut ink. Sail Stitch was created when I was making my ‘Earth Sails’ and is a reflection of the V shaped pattern often left by the tractor in the fields, and the traditional stitch used on the canvas of the sail.

Patterns: Chalk Waves, Winter Water, Floating Land, Sail Stitch

Samarkand Fabrics

The Samarkand fabric is inspired by the architectural structures and colours of buildings of Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in Central Asia which prospered on the trade route (Silk Road) between China and the Mediterranean. Small ink line drawings – looking in through windows, up through arches, embellishments on tops of buildings –  have been overlaid and repeated to make new patterns and surfaces. Dirty pinks, greens, gold (represented by yellow), red and the various blue shades (the colours of mourning) are all reflected in the fabrics. The Samarkand fabrics were designed for a client launching a new hotel and restaurant.
