Samarkand
Samarkand
The Samarkand fabric collection is inspired by the architecture and colours of Samarkand, one of the world’s oldest cities, which flourished along the Silk Road between China and the Mediterranean.
Delicate ink line drawings capture glimpses of the city: looking through windows, up through arches, and towards the ornate embellishments that crown its buildings. These drawings are overlaid and repeated to create new patterns and surfaces, echoing the layered history of the place itself.
The palette reflects the city’s distinctive hues – soft, dusty pinks; muted greens; warm golds (represented by yellow); deep reds; and the many blues traditionally associated with mourning.
The Samarkand fabrics were originally created for a client launching a new hotel and restaurant, bringing the spirit of this ancient city into a contemporary setting.
